One hundred years ago, a bright young man, with an incredible work ethic and a heart for agriculture answered a help wanted ad and moved from the University of Illinois to a little town on the eastern banks of the Illinois River. RB Best began his career in Greene County managing a farm for a Chicago lawfirm. While working on the farm, Best began saving the seed from the best of his and his neighbor’s corn to ensure improved crops in subsequent years. He even went back to the U of I for a short course on seed production to expand his knowledge. With the help of his wife, Olga, a company was born.

Columbiana’s Best has been family owned and locally focused since 1921. We look forward to your operation being part of our future.
